Presentation name: A Beginner's Guide to Inter-Service Messaging
Speakers: Aurélien Bompard, Jeremy Cline
Description: Sending and receiving messages is a common task in software.
Fedora Infrastructure has many event-driven services, we'll discuss some of the problems we encountered and their solutions. Topics include:
- How to pick the right message protocol.
- How to design a "good message". How to recover when you inevitably
don't design a "good message" or when the meaning of the word "good" changes. - Networking: centralized or decentralized?
- How to deal with lost messages. Is it bad? Should you care?
Each topic contains plenty of concrete examples from Fedora Infrastructure.
At the end of this talk, the audience should be well-equipped to not repeat
the mistakes we made and instead go make new and interesting mistakes.
This talk does not require prior knowledge of any message protocols.
Rootless containers refers to the ability for an unprivileged user to create, run and otherwise manage containers. This term also includes the variety of tooling around containers that can also be run as an unprivileged user. The goal of this website is to catalogue all of the open questions and unresolved issues that need to be solved to bring us closer to rootless containers “for all”.
“Unprivileged user” in this context refers to a user who does not have any administrative rights, and is “not in the good graces of the administrator” (in other words, they do not have the ability to ask for more privileges to be granted to them, or for software packages to be installed).
There were a couple of QEMU / virtualization related talks at the DevConf 2017 conference that took place at the end of January already, but so far we missed to gather the links to the recordings of these talks. So here is now the list:
