The libvirt project:

• is a toolkit to manage virtualization platforms
• is accessible from C, Python, Perl, Go and more
• is licensed under open source licenses
• supports KVM, Hypervisor.framework, QEMU, Xen, Virtuozzo, VMWare ESX, LXC, BHyve and more
• targets Linux, FreeBSD, Windows and macOS
• is used by many applications

rkt (pronounced "rock-it") is a CLI for running app containers on Linux. rkt is designed to be composable, secure, and fast.

Some of rkt's key features and goals include:

• First-class integration with init systems (systemd, upstart) and cluster orchestration tools (fleet, Kubernetes)
• Compatibility with other container software (e.g. rkt can run Docker images)
• Modular and extensible architecture (network configuration plugins, swappable execution engines based on systemd or QEMU/KVM)

linuxcontainers.org is the umbrella project behind LXC, LXD and CGManager.

The goal is to offer a distro and vendor neutral environment for the development of Linux container technologies. The project provides resources such as build machines, CI infrastructure, mailing-lists, website, e-mail, ... to the various projects under it.
