Etcd-backup-restore is collection of components to backup and restore the etcd. It also, provides the ability to validate the data directory, so that we could know the data directory is in good shape to bootstrap etcd successfully.
The K10 data management platform, purpose-built for Kubernetes, provides enterprise operations teams an easy-to-use, scalable, and secure system for backup/restore, disaster recovery, and mobility of Kubernetes applications.
K10’s application-centric approach and deep integrations with relational and NoSQL databases, Kubernetes distributions, and all clouds provides teams the freedom of infrastructure choice without sacrificing operational simplicity. Policy-driven and extensible, K10 provides a native Kubernetes API and includes features such full-spectrum consistency, database integrations, automatic application discovery, multi-cloud mobility, and a powerful web-based user interface.
Given K10’s extensive ecosystem support you have the flexibility to choose environments (public/ private/ hybrid cloud/ on-prem) and Kubernetes distributions (cloud vendor managed or self managed) in support of three principal use cases:
-
Application Mobility

The mysqldump tools allows you to convert a MySQL database server or individual schemas back to SQL. You are left with a script that is supposed to be loadable into a target server and gives you back the full database, including all objects in it.
Samba backups provide a way to recover your Samba AD domain, in the unlikely event that it suffers a catastrophic failure. It does not backup individual DCs.
For production deployments, it is best practice that each plane runs on dedicated physical or virtual hosts. For development, multi-tenancy may be used to simplify management and reduce costs.
borgmatic is a simple Python wrapper script for the Borg backup software that initiates a backup, prunes any old backups according to a retention policy, and validates backups for consistency. The script supports specifying your settings in a declarative configuration file rather than having to put them all on the command-line, and handles common errors.
Ark gives you tools to back up and restore your Kubernetes cluster resources and persistent volumes. Ark lets you:
Take backups of your cluster and restore in case of loss.
Copy cluster resources across cloud providers. NOTE: Cloud volume migrations are not yet supported.
Replicate your production environment for development and testing environments.
Ark consists of:
A server that runs on your cluster
A command-line client that runs locallyBarman (Backup and Recovery Manager) is an open-source administration tool for disaster recovery of PostgreSQL servers written in Python. It allows your organisation to perform remote backups of multiple servers in business critical environments to reduce risk and help DBAs during the recovery phase.
Barman is distributed under GNU GPL 3 and maintained by 2ndQuadrant, a platinum sponsor of the PostgreSQL project.
When discussing disaster recovery, it’s important to take your business’ continuity plan into consideration. Backup and recovery processes are a critical part of any application infrastructure.
A well-tested backup and recovery system can be the difference between a minor outage and the end of your business.
You will want to take three things into consideration when planning your disaster recovery strategy: recovery time objective, recovery point objective and risk mitigation.
Recovery time objective (RTO) is how long it takes to restore your backups. Recovery point objective (RPO) is what point in time you want to recover (in other words, how much data you can afford to lose after recovery). Finally, you need to understand what risks you are trying to mitigate. Risks to your data include (but are not limited to) bad actors, data corruption, user error, host failure and data center failure.
Schrödinger's Backup: "The condition of any backup is unknown until a restore is attempted"
So you're backing up your databases, but are you regularly checking that the backups are actually useable? Uphold will help you automatically test them by downloading the backup, decompressing, loading and then running programmatic tests against it that you define to make sure they really have what you need.
I did the backup using TWRP, transferred it to my laptop, wiped the device, sent it in, got it back, copied the backup to the phone, restored it and... Was locked out of the device, it would not take my password anymore. Well, it seems that happens, just delete some files and it will be fine.
In this post I will explain how to transfer a multi terabyte size database between two MySQL instances using mydumper, which is a logical backup and restore tool that works in parallel. I will also cover the case where you need to transfer only a subset of data.
Big tables are often problematic because of the amount of time needed to do mysqldump/restore which is single threaded. It is not uncommon for this type of process to take several days.
Enables you to back up and restore your operating system, volumes, files, folders, and applications from a command prompt.
To configure a regularly scheduled backup, you must be a member of the Administrators group. To perform all other tasks with this command, you must be a member of the Backup Operators or the Administrators group, or you must have been delegated the appropriate permissions.
Relax-and-Recover is a setup-and-forget Linux bare metal disaster recovery solution. It is easy to set up and requires no maintenance so there is no excuse for not using it.
