Before tmux, I spent most of my time working in graphical editors and interfaces, and found working in the terminal difficult to do.
After moving to tmux and learning how to configure it to suit my needs, I now spend nearly all my time whilst writing code in tmux.
In this video, I share the configuration that I’ve developed over the years to improve my own productivity, and why you may want to consider using tmux yourself.
tmate is a fork of tmux. tmate and tmux can coexist on the same system.

What is a terminal multiplexer? It lets you switch easily between several programs in one terminal, detach them (they keep running in the background) and reattach them to a different terminal. And do a lot more. See the manual.
Download tmux 2.0 (changelog) or get the development version. tmux is hosted on GitHub and needs libevent and ncurses.
For support contact the tmux-users@googlegroups.com mailing list or IRC channel #tmux on freenode.
There are some programs to use with tmux on GitHub and a book on tmux.
This feature improves the default pipe-pane logging mechanism by stripping ANSI codes.
Restore tmux environment after a system restart.
Solarized is a sixteen color palette (eight monotones, eight accent colors) designed for use with terminal and gui applications. It has several unique properties. I designed this colorscheme with both precise CIELAB lightness relationships and a refined set of hues based on fixed color wheel relationships. It has been tested extensively in real world use on color calibrated displays (as well as uncalibrated/intentionally miscalibrated displays) and in a variety of lighting conditions.
There are 4,257 tutorials on tmux. That’s a rough number that I just made up. This one is designed to take you from “wtf tmux” to “omg tmux” with extreme haste.
