Open Kinetic is an open source Collaborative Project formed under the auspices of the Linux Foundation dedicated to creating an open standard around Ethernet-enabled, key/value Kinetic devices.
Kinetic is a drive architecture in which the drive is a key/value server with Ethernet connectivity. The architecture is inspired by the scale out data center in which Ethernet and Linux are ubiquitous, open source software reduces barriers to entry, and hardware is becoming more commoditized.
etcd is a distributed key value store that provides a reliable way to store data across a cluster of machines. It’s open-source and available on GitHub. etcd gracefully handles master elections during network partitions and will tolerate machine failure, including the master.
Your applications can read and write data into etcd. A simple use-case is to store database connection details or feature flags in etcd as key value pairs. These values can be watched, allowing your app to reconfigure itself when they change.
Advanced uses take advantage of the consistency guarantees to implement database master elections or do distributed locking across a cluster of workers.
The KV endpoint is used to access Consul's simple key/value store, useful for storing service configuration or other metadata.
etcd is a distributed, consistent key value store for shared configuration and service discovery with a focus on being:
Simple: curl'able user facing API (HTTP+JSON)
Secure: optional SSL client cert authentication
Fast: benchmarked 1000s of writes/s per instance
Reliable: properly distributed using Raft
etcd is written in Go and uses the Raft consensus algorithm to manage a highly-available replicated log.
See etcdctl for a simple command line client. Or feel free to just use curl, as in the examples below.
If you're considering etcd for production use, please see: production-ready.md
etcd is an open source, distributed, consistent key-value store for shared configuration, service discovery, and scheduler coordination. By using etcd, applications can ensure that even in the face of individual servers failing, the application will continue to work. etcd is a core component of CoreOS software that facilitates safe automatic updates, coordinating work being scheduled to hosts, and setting up overlay networking for containers.
