management user interface
- Manual section: 1
- Manual group: Virtualization Support

The libvirt project:
- is a toolkit to manage virtualization platforms
- is accessible from C, Python, Perl, Go and more
- is licensed under open source licenses
- supports KVM, Hypervisor.framework, QEMU, Xen, Virtuozzo, VMWare ESX, LXC, BHyve and more
- targets Linux, FreeBSD, Windows and macOS
- is used by many applications

General note concerning the use of guest agent interfaces:
"unsupported" is a higher-level error than the errors that individual commands might document. The caller should always be prepared to receive QERR_UNSUPPORTED, even if the given command doesn’t specify it, or doesn’t document any failure mode at all.
I was in Prague last month for the 2017 edition of the KVM Forum. There I gave a talk about some of the work that I’ve been doing this year to improve the qcow2 file format used by QEMU for storing disk images. The focus of my work is to make qcow2 faster and to reduce its memory requirements.

Kolla’s mission is to provide production-ready containers and deployment tools for operating OpenStack clouds.
This documentation is for the Kolla container images. The following subprojects are available to help deploy Kolla:
- kolla-ansible
- kolla-kubernetes
There were a couple of QEMU / virtualization related talks at the DevConf 2017 conference that took place at the end of January already, but so far we missed to gather the links to the recordings of these talks. So here is now the list:
Simple yet Powerful Turnkey Solution to Build Clouds and Manage Data Center Virtualization
OpenStack is on a six-month release cycle, with each release given a code name starting with consecutive letters of the alphabet. On October 7th, OpenStack Newton was released. Let's look at a few highlights from OpenStack's 2016 Newton release.
In addition to the usual enormous number of incremental improvements, the Newton release focused on ease of deployment and usability improvements, as well as improved container-management tools. It also added the Tacker project, for deploying and managing virtual network functions (NFV) on OpenStack.
Open vSwitch is a production quality, multilayer virtual switch licensed under the open source Apache 2.0 license. It is designed to enable massive network automation through programmatic extension, while still supporting standard management interfaces and protocols (e.g. NetFlow, sFlow, IPFIX, RSPAN, CLI, LACP, 802.1ag). In addition, it is designed to support distribution across multiple physical servers similar to VMware's vNetwork distributed vswitch or Cisco's Nexus 1000V.
rkt (pronounced "rock-it") is a CLI for running app containers on Linux. rkt is designed to be composable, secure, and fast.
Some of rkt's key features and goals include:
- First-class integration with init systems (systemd, upstart) and cluster orchestration tools (fleet, Kubernetes)
- Compatibility with other container software (e.g. rkt can run Docker images)
- Modular and extensible architecture (network configuration plugins, swappable execution engines based on systemd or QEMU/KVM)
