The CoMatrix project enables the usage of the Matrix protocol (more precisely Matrix Client-Server API [0]) for constrained IoT devices via CoAP [1] and CBOR [2] in a constrained network (e.g. a 802.15.4/6LoWPAN network [3]).
The architecture of the Matrix protocol is based on HTTP/REST/JSON/TLS and is therefore not suitable for constrained devices. CoMatrix provides a gateway, which ports Matrix to CoAP/CBOR/(DTLS). This gateway communicates with constrained IoT devices on one side via CoAP+CBOR and translates to the Matrix protocol on the other side (i.e. HTTP+JSON). We also provide a CoMatrix client library (for RIOT-OS [4]) which provides a starting point to implement CoAP clients (for constrained devices) which are able to interact with Matrix homeservers via the gateway.
Meshtastic™ is a project that lets you use inexpensive ($30 ish) GPS radios as an extensible, long battery life, secure, mesh GPS communicator. These radios are great for hiking, skiing, paragliding - essentially any hobby where you don’t have reliable internet access. Each member of your private mesh can always see the location and distance of all other members and any text messages sent to your group chat.
The radios automatically create a mesh to forward packets as needed, so everyone in the group can receive messages from even the furthest member. The radios will optionally work with your phone, but no phone is required.
Note: Questions after reading this? See our new forum.
Uses
- Outdoor sports where cellular coverage is limited. (Hiking, Skiing, Boating, Paragliding, Gliders etc..)
- Applications where closed source GPS communicators just won’t cut it (it is easy to add features for glider pilots etc…)
- Secure long-range communication within groups without depending on cellular providers
- Finding your lost kids ;-)
- Through our python API use these inexpensive radios to easily add mesh networking to your own projects.
Open Routing, OpenR, is Facebook's internally designed and developed routing protocol/platform. Originally built for performing routing on the Terragraph network, its awesome design and flexibility have led to its adoption in other networks at Facebook including our new WAN network, Express Backbone.
